Description | Daily records of the weather at Fort William [Kolkata], taken at varying times, most often two records per day, morning and afternoon. Columns for date and time, barometer, hygrometer [not completed], thermometer inside and outside [from 4 October only], kind and quantity of clouds, wind direction and force, rain, and miscellanous remarks. Rainfall totals are carried over and totalled per month. The miscellaneous observations are often general or unusual weather events, including a considerable storm on 1 November 1787 [pp.22-23] after which 'My Pinnace was wrecked, and many Vessels lost on the River'. The observations show some local variations in location, several [for example p.7] marked 'in the gardens'.
