CreatorPearse; Thomas Deane (1741/2-1789); British army officer in the East India Company
Date2 January-31 December 1788
DescriptionDaily records of the weather at Fort William [Kolkata], taken at varying times, most often two records per day, morning and afternoon. From 11 April 1788 onwards many of the observations are 'On the River', with locations ranging from Diamond Harbour, to Hidjelee Creek, and returning to 'At the Gardens' [p.13]. This journeying recommences on 22 April [p.15]. On 6 May [p.21] 'I felt the effect of a returning stroke of Electricity, or an Earthquake...as if something had struck the Ship's bottom...'.
