DescriptionDaily meteorological observations, commencing at Fort St. George, Chennai, 1 January 1777-14 August 1778 [pp.1-23], and continuing at Nagore, Tamil Nadu, 1 October 1778-31 December 1780 [pp.23-49]. Between one and three sets of observations per day, the times varying. Columns for date, hour from noon, thermometer out of doors, thermometer indoors, barometer, rain gauge, force and direction of wind, and general observations.

There are annual summaries by month of the highest, lowest, and medium height and differences in thermometer and barometer readings, rainfall in inches and twentieths of an inch. There are also medical records inserted, commencing with [p.15] 'A Table shewing the Number of Europeans admitted into, Discharged from, Deaths in and Patients remaining in Madras Hospeital taken at the end of each of the following months, also shewing their different Diseases', October 1776-December 1777. With a comparable tables for January-May 1778 [p.27].

Inscribed [p.1]: 'Meteorological Journal. Kept at Fort St. George in the East Indies from Jany. 1. 1777 to Aug. 14 1778 and at Nagore...by Mr. William Roxburgh, Surgeon'. Stamped 'Soc: Reg: Lond: ex dono Auctoris', and inscribed 'Presented Jany. 19 1786'.
