Description | Tidal measurements recorded at Wapping, Middlesex. Columns for day and date of observation, times of morning and evening high water, heights of morning and evening tides, Moon's age, wind direction at morning and evening, with general weather remarks. From February 1802 [p.18] the column order is altered, with height of tides preceding time of high water.
The method of gathering this data is noted in the paper 'On the tides of the Port of London', by John William Lubbock, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, v.121 (1831) pp.379-415. 'at the entrance to the London Docks; the time of high water, or the time when the water has just made its mark, is there noted on a slate by the watchman on the pier-head, generally only to the nearest five minutes; this is afterwards copied in a book kept for the purpose by Mr. Peirse'.
