DescriptionPlan view of Liverpool Docks, showing the docks, buildings and nearby streets, with the average low water mark of Spring tides 8 feet 9 inches below the Old Dock Sill. With manuscript additions by Jesse Hartley, showing the locations of tidal observations made at Princess Dock, Salthouse Dock, Queens Dock and the sill of the Old Dock. The key to the locations is signed by Hartley, dated 19 September 1855, and sent to John William Lubbock. Scale: 1 inch to 300 yards.

Headed: 'Plan of the proposed alterations and additions to the docks and basins in the Port and Town of Liverpool 1825 and 1828'. The engraved plan is inscribed, lower right, 'Jesse Hartley, Surveyor, Liverpool, 1825 & 1828'. Inscribed in pencil, verso [p.2]: 'Plan'.
