DescriptionDaily meteorological observations made at Flagstaff Hill Observatory, Melbourne, Victoria. The volume commences with readings to the end of 1857 [pp.2-108] made at two-hourly intervals, 6.00am to 10.00pm on each day, recorded in German; it continues [pp.109-398] in English, with hourly observations midnight to 11.00pm. The latter has columns for time, readings of the barometer and attached thermometer with reduction; dry and wet bulb thermometers with pressure of vapour; thermometer in Sun; temperature of soil; wind directuion and force; hours of fof, rain, snow, hail and dew; cloud form, directions and proportion of clear sky; amount of ozone; amount of rain; and general remarks.

The volume contains one press cutting, noting an earthquake on 8 April 1858 [p.192]. Later pages are signed, dated, and annotated by Von Neumayer.

The front end paper is headed: 'Melbourne Observations' and signed by G B von Neumayer, with the inscription: 'Presented to the Library of the Royal Society London'. The volume has a title page in German, commencing 'Meteorologische Beobachtungen...'
