DescriptionDaily meteorological observations, usually of six thermometer readings per day, with noon and midnight records of barometric pressure, single observations of wind force and direction, with weather notes and general remarks.

The fixed location, Victoria Settlement, Port Essington, now in the Northern Territory of Australia, was established by Sir John James Gordon Bremer in 1838, during this visit.

Headed: 'Meteorological Journal kept on board H.M.S. "Alligator" moored off Victoria Port Essington Beginning 27th October 1838 Ending 25 May 1839.'. With the stamp of the Royal Navy's Hydrographer's Office, dated 5 August 1840. Signed [p.15] by J.J. Gordon Bremer.
