DescriptionHalf-hourly meteorological observations taken from 6.00am to 6.00pm on 21 September 1838. Columns for day and hour, barometer readings and difference, thermometer [attached?] and thermometer in shade, hygrometer (thermometer dew point and difference), sempiere, and thermometer in Sun; with wind direction and strength and general weather remarks.

Headed [p.2/7]: 'Meteorological Observations taken at the Observatory, Port Louis, Mauritius 21st September 1838'. Endorsed in red ink [p.7]: 'Rec'd May 25/39'. The cover sheet [p1] is inscribed: 'Meteorological 789 Mauritius meteor: Register Septr. 21/38' with the stamp of the Hydrographical Office dated 5 August 1840. Inscribed [p.8]: 'Simultaneous Meteorologica Observations for September 1838 Port Louis Mauritius', with a pencil note 'My dear Capt. Beaufort for Sir J. Herschell [sic] for in[?] JWL' [John William Lubbock].
