DescriptionDaily meteorological observations, initially made three times each day, but settling into four observations usually at 8.00am, 12.00 noon, 4.00pm and 8.00pm. Columns for the day and hour, barometer readings and difference, thermometer, thermometer in shade, hygrometer (thermometer, dew point and difference), temperature, extremes of heat and cold, rain gauge, wind direction and strength, and general weather remarks. At equinoxes and solstices there are half-hourly readings.

Headed [p.1]: 'Meteorological Observations taken at the Observatory of Mauritius in the Year 1839'. Inscribed: 'Enclosure with Sir William Nicolay's despatch No. 19, of 18th February 1840'. Signed [p.63]: 'John Morton in charge of the Observatory'.
