DescriptionHourly and half-hourly meteorological observations taken from 6.00am on 9 April to 9.00pm on 10 April 1840. Columns for day and hour, barometer readings and difference, thermometer, hygrometer (thermometer, dew point and difference), rain gauge, wind direction and strength, and general weather remarks.

With extended weather remarks below the main table, which was compiled during hurricane conditions. 'I cannot conclude without remarking the particular kindness of Mr. Lienard senior & of Mr. Thomas Corby, a volunteer in the Surveyor General's Department, the former by assiting me with his own accurately compiled and valuable notes taken during the Hurricane, and the latter by kindly taking the observations for me during part of the time, when fatigue and illness prevented by being at the observatory'.

Headed [p.1]: 'Mauritius Observatory. Meteorological observations, taken on the 9th and 10th. April 1840.', concluding 'John Morton, in charge of the Observatory'. Two minor inscriptions [p.2]: '9/10 Apr. 1840'.
