| Title | Letter from James Parker Smith, Jordanhill, Glasgow, to Lord Kelvin, [The Royal Society] |
| Creator | Parker Smith; James (1854-1929); barrister and politician |
| Date | 4 January 1899 |
| Description | Sad to hear of the death of [Bartholomew] Price, Master of Pembroke. Expresses his practical interest in relation to filling the consequential vacancy at Winchester College, a position that was appointed by the Royal Society and will be required to be filled by the Society. Expresses strong feelings towards a personally preferred candidate, [Charles Alfred] Cripps. Identifies that Cripps is not FRS so he proposes suitable fellows, namely [John] Lubbock, [Sir Henry Enfield] Roscoe, Sir [John] Wolfe Barry. Comments that Leonard Darwin would make a passionate and devoted candidate but, that he is not a Wykehamist. Informs that he is writing to Lubbock on the subject. |
