DescriptionInforms the Finance Act [1906] 'empowers the Commissioners of Customs and the Commissioners of inland Revenue jointly to make regulations authorising the use of any means described in the regulations for ascertaining for any purpose the strength or weight of spirits'. The aim of the clause 'is to legalise other methods than Sikes's hydrometer for obtaining the alcoholic content of aqueous solutions of spirits of wine'. It has become necessary in framing the regulations to revise the Alcohol Tables. Thorpe ahs been asked to prepare a new set of Alcohol Tables and therefore requests permission to search the Royal Society's records regarding observations connected with the Alcohol Tables.
