Title | Letter from Henry [Edward] Armstrong, 55 Granville Park, Lewisham, London, S.E, to [Professor] Sir [Joseph John] Thomson, President of the Royal Society |
Creator | Armstrong; Henry Edward (1848 - 1937); chemist and educationalist |
Date | 26 November 1917 |
Description | Declines to follow instructions regarding discussions on the qualification of officers during meetings. Does not see any reason why he should adopt the course imposed on him. Refers to the Royal Society declining to allow him to deal with a question he identifies as having been haning over the Society, though no one had the courage to raise it publicly, and being declined in raising the matter on Election Day. Disappointed to not have been entitled to more consideration as a Fellow of over 40 years standing. Emphasises that some Fellows have long hoped that, in view of the state of public feeling adverse to the participations of Germans in their affairs, the example set by others elsewhere would have been followed in the Royal Society. |
