Description	Informs that at three Government factories engaged in the production of acetone from wood there are important chemical problems requiring immediate attention, in connection with the improvement in yields and disposal of by-products. States there is no staff available for this work as the existing chemists at the factories are entirely engaged on routine control and that an arrangement with St Andrew's Universty has been made whereby the necessary investigations willl be taken up and carried on by Professor Irvine. Mentions Professor Irvine's chemists to be employed on the task. Includes an internal Royal Society Memorandum, dated 26 April 1917.
