Title | Letter from [William] Napier Shaw, Meteorological Office, South Kensington, London, S.W., to The Secretaries, The Royal Society, Burlington House, W |
Creator | Shaw; Sir; William Napier (1854 - 1945) |
Date | 2 January 1917 |
Description | Recounts the history of observational work in Terrestrial Magnetism at Falmouth Observatory, which began in 1886 with equipment acquired through government grants. The work continued for several years with financial support from the Royal Society and the British Association, with results published annually. However, due to the lack of necessary financial aid, the work ceased on 30 June 1913, and is unlikely to restart. Proposes transferring the magnetic records, which include magnetograms and books of absolute observations, from the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society at Falmouth to the Central Observatory (Kew Observatory) at Richmond. The Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society agrees with this proposal. Seeks formal approval from the Council of the Royal Society before finalising arrangements. |
