Title | Letter from H J [Herbert John] Gough to Alfred Egerton, the War Office, Whitehall, SW1 |
Creator | Gough; Herbert John (1890-1965) |
Recipient | Egerton; Sir; Alfred Charles Glyn (1886-1959); British chemist |
Date | 20 June 1939 |
Description | Reminds Egerton of [W L] Bragg's letter proposing Universities help the Services with scientific research by loaning men. Recalls Egerton's reply where he asked if the Royal Society could help. Recalls details of [David Randall] Pye's reply suggesting the Society should first satisfy itself as to the willingness of the Universities to cooperate and should then notify the Service Departments accordingly. These departments could then take up with the Treasury the question of financial approval for the appointment of such special supplementary and temporary staff. Asks if Egerton can report on the result of his enquiries with Cambridge and or other universities. |
