TitleCopy letter from A C [Alfred Charles] Egerton, 63E Princes Gate, Kensington, to [David Christie] Martin
CreatorEgerton; Sir; Alfred Charles Glyn (1886-1959); British chemist
RecipientMartin; David Christe (1914-1976); British scientific administrator
Date30 December 1946
DescriptionTwo letters attached together. The first sends good wishes to Martin in his new role as Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society. Egerton is sure he will enjoy the work and looks forward to consulting him when Egerton returns from Switzerland on the 10 January. He provides his address in Switzerland and tells him to write if he needs any help with any matter. The second letter serves as an addendum, informing Martin that Egerton has broken his leg 'rather badly' and will be staying in Switzerland for some time. He will let Martin know when he is likely to return, but estimates that he will be lucky to get back in early March. He hopes to be able to keep in touch when he is better, but at present is unable to do any work. He informs Martin that the first thing of importance will be Council on the 16th, and he will write to the Treasurer [Sir Thomas Ralph Merton] about the relevant matters. Egerton thinks that he was supposed to have a meeting with Sir E Salisbury, Professor Pantin, and Dr Bullow about the Scientific Conference, but as he will not be able to attend he will send notes to Salisbury if he is well enough to prepare them. He will ask Merton to take his place for the Sectional Committee on the 23rd.
