Description | Martin is glad Egerton has received the papers relating to the address for the Chemical Society Centenary, and states that it is very good of Egerton to undertake this duty whilst he is still confined to bed. He then provides updates on some of the [Royal] Society's activities: the ''black' Soiree' went well and was attended by the Prime Minister, followed by a visit the next day from 200 schoolchildren viewing the exhibits 'with considerable enthusiasm and interest, and this idea seems to be generally welcomed'. The Prime Minister 'is to be formally admitted' on the 5 June and will meet members of the Council, and HRH Princess Elizabeth will visit the Society on 3 July for formal admission. The Council have set up a UNESCO Committee and Martin states he is enclosinng a note which is being issued to the main scientific organisations in the country. They are due to have the first meeting on 27 June. Martin hopes that the opinion of the second surgeon is favourable and that Egerton will be out of hospital soon. |
