Title | Letter from Sir Andrew Hunter Arbuthnot Murray, Lord Provost, City Chambers, Edinburgh, to The Secretary [Sir Alfred Charles Glyn Egerton], The Royal Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London, W1 |
Creator | Murray; Sir; Andrew Hunter Arbuthnot (1903-1977); British politician and businessman |
Recipient | Egerton; Sir; Alfred Charles Glyn (1886-1959); British chemist |
Date | 6 January 1948 |
Description | He reports that due to the death of Sir John Fraser, the office of Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University has become vacant. He notes that the appointment is in the gift of the Curators of Patronage of the University, a body of which he is Chairman. The Curators seek advice on this matter, and Murray writes that 'Our endeavour is to examine the field from which a suitable appointment might be made, and I am sure that you, and perhaps other of the Office-bearers of the Royal Society, would be in a position to give us very valuable assistance in this connection'. He requests a meeting with the President of the Royal Society to discuss this further. He emphasises the confidentiality of this matter. |
