TitleLetter from Henry Clifton Sorby, Broomfield, Sheffield, to Thomas Harrison
Date4 October [1904]
DescriptionMany years ago, Lord Avebury and Sir George Gabriel Stokes arranged details for an endowment of a Fellowship or Professorship on original research and Sorby wishes to send funds. There is the now probability of there being a university in Sheffield in the near future. Although he wishes the Royal Society to have all power in the matter, he would like Sheffield to have first consideration in the awards. He sends papers on the original scheme and material from Dr. Hicks. He gives some details and asks that the matter be laid before President and Officers so that he may know if the Society would take up such a Trust.
