Title | Letter from William Mitchinson Hicks, Leamhurst, Ivy Park Road, Sheffield, to Joseph Larmor |
Date | 31 January 1909 |
Description | On investments, the Pro-Chancellor, who is Chairman of Directors of the Natonal Telephone Company advises against taking Sheffield stock as they are sure to depreciate in value. If Larmor does, it had better be something that matures in 1923. Security of income is the chief thing for a permanent investment. He recommends India 3 1/2 percents and if Larmor would like to see the Pro-Chancellor he will be in London for most of the week. Hicks discusses the will of Henry Clifton Sorby, including the committee of Royal Society Fellows and representatives of Sheffield, and how that committee should operate. He invites Larmor or Kempe to visit to see some of the chief people and to do interviewing. The solicitor tells him that all legacies will be free of duty and therefore the Royal Society will receive the full £15,000. |
