TitleLetter from Archibald Geikie, 28 Jermyn Street, to the Secretary, the Royal Society
Date28 July 1895
DescriptionApplying for a grant of £25 for an investigation of glacial clays in Argyleshire. The nature of the research is explained in the enclosed memorandum [not present] from John Horne, who was Chairman of the Committee appointed by the British Association for the Advancement of Science for the investigation of Sinclair Clays in Lanarkshire and Invernesshire. The grant formerly made by the Royal Society was of great service and Geikie can recommend the present application. The main object is to ascertain to what part of the glacial series the shell-bearing deposits belong, whether above or below the boulder clay. He has no reason to suppose that any further application will be made.

Archibald Geikie was awarded a grant of £25 from the Royal Society's Donation Fund in October 1895, 'to aid Mr. John Horne in an investigation on the extent, position and thickness of certain glacial clays in the west of Argyleshire'.
