Title | Draft of a letter from the Royal Society to Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon |
Date | 31 January 1761 |
Description | On the possible re-routing of the voyage of HMS 'Seahorse' to observe the Transit of Venus in 1761.
The letter states that the ship should make for Bencoulen [Bengkulu, Sumatra, Indonesia] in the East Indies rather than Mason and Dixon's suggestion of re-routing to Scanderoon in the Levant. It states that refusal to do so will result in being "...treated by the Council with the most inflexible resentment and prosecuted with the utmost Severity of Law". |
