TitleLetter from H [Henry] Baker, London, to the Revd. Mr. Cornelius Nozeman, Minister to the Remonstrants, in Haarlem
CreatorBaker; Henry (1698-1774); British natural philosopher and teacher of deaf people
RecipientNozeman; Cornelius (1720-1786); Dutch Remonstrant and naturalist
Date20 May 1754
DescriptionNozeman's letter of 19 April was received, and Baker writes in English in consequence of his understanding the language. He gives thanks for Nozeman's estimation of Baker's book 'Employment for the microscope', which met with great regard in England. His book 'The microscope made easy' was translated into Dutch some years ago, and this sequel has caused him great pains. Nozeman's friend will gain some advantage by making Baker more known in Holland. Baker is sorry that Nozeman left off his study of natural history. He notes the small services he has given to Mr Agge Roskam Kool and offers the same to Nozeman. He does not know how the respond to Nozemen's offer of shells; he does not purchase such things unseen and he has never spent much money on collecting, depending upon the generosity of friends abroad, or by exchanging material. Baker thought that the Dutch were well supplied with shells and therefore Kool might have some to spare. He asks for his compliments to be presented to Dr Camper. He gives his London address, stating that letters may be sent in Latin or French and he will reply to Kool's letter when things are ready.
