Elliot informs Lloyd of how busy he is. Elliot asks Lloyd to help clarify the Royal Society's intentions to propose a magnetic survey of the East India Company. Elliot suggests to leave newly appointed staff the fixed observatory at [Singapore], and more experienced staff utilised for the survey. Elliot requests the observations for whole of the Eastern Bay of Bengal, the Straits, parts of Sumatra and Java, and the Philippine islands. Elliot notes the Dutch are 'jealous', and the French and English are fighting for Manila. |
