Title | Copy of letter from John George Children to John Herapath |
Date | 29 November 1832 |
Description | This appears to be the draft letter referred to by Children in MS/123/14 and by the the Duke of Sussex in MS/123/15. There are some amendments which appear to be in the Duke of Sussex's handwriting. The last page states that this is a copy approved by the Duke.
Children is commanded by the Duke of Sussex to acknowledge receipt of Herapath's letter of 17 November 1832 [MS/123/13]. The Duke regrets that Herapath should imagine he has reason to impugn the conduct of the Council of the Royal Society. The Duke cannot enter into controversy concerning the decision of the Council on any subject or 'become an advocate against the fairness and justice of its dealings'.
A postscript notes that the Duke returned home only two days earlier. |
