TitleLetter from Antoine [Thomson] d'Abbadie, Paris to Lady Edward Sabine
Date8 April 1875
DescriptionAbbadie informs Mrs Sabine that it has been four years since he endeavoured to get Sabine named correspondent de l’Institut [de France] and made a written report on his scientific accomplishments which is to be read before the Académie des Sciences. However there has been a delay to this for various reasons discussed by Abbadie. While Abbadie was in Hendaye [Pedro] d’Alcantara, Emperor of Brazil [Pedro II was the second and last emperor of the Empire of Brazil] was elected instead. Another post was vacant, and Abbadie wrote a fresh report to nominate Sabine which was read on Monday in a secret committee. Abbadie hopes that Sabine will be elected shortly.
