TitleLetter from Christopher Henyk Diderich Buys Ballot, Utrecht to Edward Sabine
Date21 January 1866
DescriptionBallot refers to Sabine’s address of 30th November 1865. Remarks on Valentia [Island] and connection to America. Ballot updates Sabine on the work at Utrecht. They currently do not have photographic self-registering magnetical instruments. Ballot asks Sabine the price of such instruments and whether the Kew Committee would provide them. Ballot describes the apparatus they have, as well as the instruments Dr [Pieter Adrian] Bergsma has been provided with. Ballot notes that Bergsma has not been supplied with all that he requires from the Indian Government, is losing his courage ‘and does nothing worth of consideration’. Ballot remarks that it would have been better if Bergsma had given is Utrecht his photographic instruments.
