Description | Regarding a decision by the court which took Elliot ‘by surprise’. Elliot has written to the local government and refers to the idea that they have the ‘power of stopping’ him. Elliot views ‘taking the portable instruments’ would be more beneficial that remaining at the fixed observatory in Singapore. Elliot describes his ‘suffering from a sedentary life’ and remarks five and a half years of ‘magnetic business is no joke’. Discusses question which observations should be kept up. Elliot suggests a plan in the event of leaving [Singapore] to keep the instruments so that they can be ‘examined by competent observers. Discussion regarding the declination magnet and secular changes. Refers to Mr [Humphrey] Lloyd’s instruments in India. Remarks on a survey being conducted in Canada and the Cape [of Good Hope]. |
