Title | Incomplete letter from Joseph Henry, Smithsonian Institute, Washington to Edward Sabine |
Date | [c.1850] |
Description | [The beginning of this letter is missing].
Refers to the funds of the [Smithsonian Institution]. Henry references to attacks on the Institution stemmed from ‘personal feelings’ which has led them to make plans of their organisation ‘more widely known’. Five ‘large’ boxes of publications have been sent to The Royal Society. Henry has not heard from Captain [John Henry] Lefroy and shares his ‘fear’ that Lefroy has been sent to Crimea [possibly referring to the Crimean war], they were in discussion relating to the aurora. |
