Description | Refers to the letters written by [William Radcliffe] Birt to John Herschel, the Marquess of Northampton and Sir Roderick [Impey] Murchison ‘offering his services at Kew’. Discussion regarding future observation and their reduction. Ronalds refers to his opinion on the cost of continuance. Decision to reduce electrical observations conducted by Birt at Kew. Regarding the Committee’s offer to Birt to continue electrical observations for another year, and Birt’s response. Regarding a proposal for Ronalds to continue as the Director of the Kew Observatory with Birt as his Assistant. Discusses a proposal for the continuance of the Kew Observatory as well as a grant of £250. Refers to £100 ‘allotted’ to Birt and its terms. Preparation for Birt’s arrival to [Kew] and repairs to the building. Ronalds refers to his and Birt’s duties. Describes ‘a most unpleasant altercation’ involving Birt. Ronalds refers to Birts remarks that [Ronalds] ‘manner of speaking to him had brought on an affection of the heart’ and therefore, Ronalds chose to ‘avoid as much as possible asking’ questions.
