Title | Letter from Balfour Stewart, St Johns Grove, Richmond to Edward Sabine |
Date | 13 August 1859 |
Description | Stewart thanks Sabine for the latitude and longitude and hopes ‘to find the remaining two in Black’s county maps’.
Includes a copy of Stewart's reply to Mr Magrath. Stewart is happy to learn Magrath’s son is pleased with him and would be happy to ‘make him acquainted with other processes of the work of the observatory’. However, Stewart suggests a ‘thorough acquaintance with the magnetical instruments require a great knowledge of mathematics’. Refers to Mr [Charles] Chambers work and duties at the observatory and remarks Magrath is ‘mistaken’ if he thinks his ‘son’s work is of a higher order than his'. Stewart would be happy to aid Magrath’s son if he wishes to study mathematics. |
