Inscribed in pencil verso: 'Tercentenary Celebrations Der Königlich Preussiche Akademie der Wissenschaften. To which Sir E. Thorpe & Sir W. Ramsay were invited to represent the English Royal Society'. A note in ink above states that: 'Badge worn by Sir E. Thorpe on this occasion. March 1900'.
