TitleCopy letter, JWL [John William Lubbock], RS [Royal Society], to M [François] Arago
CreatorLubbock; Sir John William; third baronet (1803-1865); British astronomer and banker
RecipientArago; Dominque François Jean (1786-1853); French mathematician and astronomer
Date16 July 1839
DescriptionHe has just received Arago's letter acknowledging the receipt of Lubbock's treatise on finding the distance of comets. He comments on the delay and he requests copies of the instructions for Antarctic expeditions which were printed in the Comptes Rendus. These might be sent as soon as possible so as to catch the sailing of Captain [James Clark] Ross's expedition in August. He hopes that before the bright days of summer are past, they will have the details of M. [Louis] Daguerre's [photographic] process.
