Description | In response to Knyvett's offer to present a portrait of Dr [James] Jurin to the Royal Society. White assures Knyvett that if accepted, the portrait will be properly labelled and the name of the donor would be printed in the annual list of the presents made to the Society and in a new edition of the Society's 'Catalogue of Portraits'. White clarifies, however, that the Society do not have it in their power 'to promote the welfare, or widen the social prospects of individuals.
