Description | Describes great quantities of pumice stone from Krakatoa. No wave was observed although peculiar sky effects were seen. A wave was experienced at Mahe, in the Seychelles, the receding wave being more pronounced than the progressive one. Inhabitants estimated this to be equivalent to a fall of 2 to 2 1/2 feet. HMS Magpie observed masses of flaoting pumice as far as Longitude 61 degrees East, the ship being at latitude 6 degrees south. Since then, no more has been observed. |
