Title | Letter from A B [Alfred Bray] Kempe, the Royal Society, Burlington House, to Sir Clements Markham |
Creator | Kempe; Sir; Alfred Bray (1849-1922) |
Date | 27 November 1901 |
Description | Regarding the question of [George Robert Milne] Murray's honorarium, Sir William Huggins and the other Royal Society officers thought it best for the Finance Committee to approach Murray and ascertain his views on the matter. Regardless of Murray's hopes regarding the relief ship, his real reason for coming home was due to the 'Discovery' changing its route and travelling to Christchurch instead of Melbourne. The President [Huggins] recognised that Murray had no power to control this, and it may be hard for Murray to refund money that he has already spent. Ray Lankester, Director of the Natural History Museum, has told him that Murray is ill and has not yet returned to work. |
