| Description | Was unable to answer Kempe sooner as he was 'ill from vaccination - no doubt with some added impurity', and was waiting to speak with [William] Shackleton before replying. Murray discussed the Melbourne pendulums with Captain [Robert Falcon] Scott last May, who told him they had '"decided not to take them"'. Murray assumed this decision had been taken in consultation with [John Walter] Gregory. Notes that Scott was sensitive about possibly offending Gregory, and Murray suggests one of Gregory's letters must have caused a genuine misunderstanding. Shackleton agrees with his statement. |
