Title | Letter from Sir Clements Markham, 10 Porchester Square, to [Alfred Bray] Kempe |
Creator | Markham; Sir; Clements Robert (1830-1916); President of the Royal Geographical Society |
Recipient | Kempe; Sir; Alfred Bray (1849-1922) |
Date | 21 May 1903 |
Description | Has sorted things out with the Admiralty. 'Lord Selborne is a good friend to us; and one of the other Lords will do anything he can, for [Robert Falcon] Scott's sake'. Colonel [Clement] Royds was going to ask a question [in Parliament] about this, but the Prime Minister asked him to wait until Tuesday, which Markham thinks is a good sign. It will be taken up in the House of Lords if necessary. Is worried the relief ship will 'turn the scale against us', and has been to Liverpool to discuss possible alternative actions with the Lord Mayor. Wishes to call a meeting of the [Finance] Committee next Tuesday. |
