Title | Letter from Edward L S [Lygon Somers] Cocks, 43 Charing Cross, to [Alfred Bray] Kempe |
Creator | Cocks; Edward Lygon Somers (1858-1923); treasurer of the Royal Geographical Society |
Recipient | Kempe; Sir; Alfred Bray (1849-1922) |
Date | 3 July 1903 |
Description | States that when he met the President of the Royal Society [Sir William Huggins], Sir M[ichael] Foster and Kempe to get the letter signed, he had not known that Sir Clements Markham was writing other letters to the Treasury. Cocks did not see them until he was shown them at the Treasury. Supposes he should have forseen this, 'but it is only a misfortune to be a fool and I have no wish to appear a knave as well'. Regrets the turn events have taken. |
