Description | Scott regrets that the telegram with his 1903 Report was 'altered out of all recognition by Reuters Agency'. He states that the aim of the reports is to outline the work of the expedition, but not to provide detailed scientific results as this is the duty of the various officers.
The report describes the onset of Winter in March 1903 following the departure of the 'Morning'. By April it was clear that the 'Discovery' would not be free of the ice in 1903, and preparations for wintering were made. Details of the food supply are given, as well as other aspects of everyday life. Scott describes numerous sledge journies and the work being undertaken by scientists on the expedition. Also outlined are the efforts taken to free the 'Discovery' from the sea ice in January 1904. Scott also describes a number of islands and records the position of the ship as they journey back north. |
