| Description | He understands Larmor's position. His mention of Ramsay reminded Bousfield of his palladium and hydrogen experiment which threw light on osmotic pressure and which suggested the vapour pressure theory. He has added a few lines and asked Ramsay to communicate the paper, which he has consented to do. He notes an alteration and understands Larmor's antipathy to osmotic pressure. Bousfield found it a 'scientific bogie' until the vapour pressure theory explained it away. He now has the conviction that there is no such thing as osmotic pressure: there is osmosis and there is liquid pressure, and osmotic equilibrium through a septum. |
