Title | Letter from H E [Henry Edward] Armstrong, 55 Granville Park, Lewisham, London, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Armstrong; Henry Edward (1848-1937); British chemist and educational reformer |
Date | 3 July 1907 |
Description | He has been reading exam papers for days '& am nearly reduced to a state of idiotcy'. He thinks that Larmor has misunderstood the solubility results and explains that the precipitant does not act in a simply proportionate way, at least at first. The solubility change and freezing point change do not run parallel. Armstrong states that their results are 'novel and unexpected'. They are on the point of 'clearing up the tangle of solutions, strong & weak'. He apologizes for not communicating with the Society about the grant, which escaped him. Research work is going in all sorts of directions and he notes some of his activities, including educational affairs. It was settled yesterday that Christ's Hospital would spend £13,000, including on workshops, the design of which has cost him trouble. |
