Title | Letter from Svante Arrhenius, 17 Wilmslow Road, Withington, Manchester, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Arrhenius; Svante August (1859-1927); Swedish chemist |
Date | 13 June 1909 |
Description | Thanking Larmor for his letter of 11 June and for his trials in finding Arrhenius a coloured gown for 22 June. If, as Larmor says, it is not necessary to wear a gown, he will bear his fate philosophically. Swedish academic dress is inconspicuous, just two stars embroidered on the evening dress coat, sometime with a sword and tricorn hat, but the latter less often in recent times. He has his academic evening dress with him. He will be very glad to stay in St. John's College, where he has already spent agreeable days as Larmor's guest. |
