| Title | Letter from W N [William Napier] Shaw, 10 Moreton Gardens, Old Brompton Road, to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | Shaw; Sir William Napier (1854-1945); British meteorologist |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 4 February 1905 |
| Description | Larmor was interested in the yield of wheat and Shaw asks about a further development. He will find a tracing of the yields for Easter Counties 1885-1903 [not present] and the curve is 'absurdly symmetrical' about the 'mysterious years 1895-6'. He discusses the data, asking 'Is this coincidence, freak integral meteorology, or mere devilry?' He wonders what it could possibly mean, and asks Larmor if there is a simple explanation. |
