| Title | Letter from W H [William Henry] Young, La Nouette de la Foret, Geneva, to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | Young; William Henry (1863-1942); British mathematician |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 6 June 1909 |
| Description | Young has heard that [William] Jack intends to retire from his Chair at Glasgow, and Young intends to apply for it. He has recently stood for Chairs at King's College London and at Aberdeen, both in pure mathematics. He notes how these posts were filled and asks for Larmor's support in the new application. Young gives an account of his publishing activity. He asks Larmor to return two testimonials from foreign mathematicians when he replies, and he also encloses what Larmor wrote about him the last time he requested a testimonial from him. Young concludes by describing the geometry papers he has written, and he is venturing to ask [Ernest William] Hobson to speak with Larmor. |
