TitleLetter from T E [Thomas Edward] Thorpe, Whinfield, Salcombe, S Devon, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorThorpe; Sir Thomas Edward (1845-1925); British chemist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date23 May 1920
DescriptionThorpe has returned the final proof sheets of the Cavendish volume with nothing to alter or amend in Larmor's portion. Larmor had already corrected printers' errors owing to his 'characteristic calligraphy'. He has spent Whit Sunday putting together a preface, with Larmor's assistance, agreeing with Larmor that they must be aware of the 'indolent reviewer', and try their best to recoup for the University Press what will be an unprofitable venture. Some allusion must be made to the Cavendish family and Cambridge. He sends a rough draft [not present] for Larmor to alter as he thinks best. He has included Larmor's original text, which he returns. Some recognition of Mr. Peace is reasonable and Larmor should add that sentence. Thorpe is now working on the index and notes other items to complete.
