TitleLetter from George W [Walker] Walker, Superintendent of Mining, H.M. Gunwharf, Portsmouth, to Sir Joseph [Larmor]
CreatorWalker; George Walker (1874-1921); British seismologist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date31 December 1919
DescriptionHe has read Larmor's 'exposure' of [Albert] Einstein in the Proceedings with profound pleasure. He forwards a few points for Larmor's consideration. On the bending of light, he thinks the astronomers must give more data. On the elastic theory of Rayleigh, he comments on the elasticity of aether and its density near large bodies such as the Sun. His third point refers to the effect of the cutting off of ultraviolet radiation in the shadow, which must have a profound effect on the optical prpperties in the upper atmosphere. In a postscript, he asks about the Zeeman effect as an explanation for the perihelion motion of Mercury.
