| Description | Larmor has looked through enclosed sheets [not present], complimenting the sections on the ordinate and the eccentric circle. The heaping up of definitions at the outset will make the text unfit for students reading alone without tutors. Taylor's old chapter on the general conic is a good model, and Larmor would begin with an easy description of what curves are, and their various uses; moving to definitions and illustrative figures. Then the old general conic, followed by the eccentric circle and ordinates. |
