TitleLetter from J [Joseph] Larmor, St John's College, Cambridge, to [Frederick Thomas] Trouton
CreatorLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
RecipientTrouton; Frederick Thomas (1863-1922); Irish experimental physicist
Date4 December 1905
DescriptionLarmor has read some of the paper on hygrometery and supposes the conical forces Troughton discusses are those in hairs and fibres which swell when wet. In glass wool, any effect would be due to surface causes, and Larmor discusses Trouton's manuscript, including applying Kelvin's principle on the very slight effect of gravity in the amount of moisture absorbed. Larmor has not looked at the curves, which might answer some of his queries. He asks if Trouton wishes it to be published in the Proceedings or Transactions, the former being more rapid for short papers.
